Django Django is the debut album by British art rock band Django Django. The album was released on 30 January 2012 in the United Kingdom via Because Music, and charted on the UK Albums Chart at #33. In 2014 it was awarded a gold certification from the Independent Music Companies Association,[2] which indicated sales of at least 75,000 copies throughout Europe.[3]

The album was nominated for the 2012 Mercury Music Prize. It was certified gold by the UPFI in 2012,[4] and then platinum in 2013.[5]

Django Django holds a score of 80 out of 100 on review aggregate site Metacritic, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[7] The Guardian reviewer Michael Hann praised the album's "top-notch" songwriting and "updated psychedelia that beguiles and delights", concluding that "surely this debut won't be topped in 2012".[9]

The track "WOR" has been recently used in a Toyota Australia advertisement for the 2019 Toyota CH-R Next Gen Turbo.

The album was listed at number 26 on Rolling Stone's list of the top 50 albums of 2012, with the magazine writing: "Drummer-producer David Maclean is the MVP, building trippy tracks around indelible grooves."[18]

The album was also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.[19]

Hi Djinx! Django Django Remixed is a remix album with the same exact track listing as Django Django excluding the introduction. Django Django ist eine britische Rockband, die seit 2008 besteht. Ihr Musikstil wird als „psychedelic art pop“ bezeichnet.[3]

Geschichte

Django Django wurde 2008 von Studienfreunden in London gegründet.[3] Bandmitglieder sind David Maclean (Schlagzeug, Produzent), Vincent Neff (Gesang, Gitarre), Jimmy Dixon (Bass) und Tommy Grace (Synthesizer).

2009 erschien ihre erste Single Storm, gefolgt von WOR (2010), Waveforms (2011), Default (2012) und Hail Bop (2012).[4] Am 30. Januar 2012 kam ihr Debütalbum Django Django auf den Markt, das durchweg gute Kritiken erhielt. Es stieg auf Platz 33 in den britischen Charts ein[5] und wurde für den Mercury Music Prize 2012 nominiert.[6] Der Musikexpress kürte Django Django in der Ausgabe 01/2013 zum besten Album des Jahres 2012. Am 1. Mai 2015 erschien das zweite Album Born Under Saturn. Vorab erschien schon die Singleauskopplung First Light.
