American Capitalist is the third studio album by American heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch, released on October 11, 2011.[2] It is the band's first album not to feature bassist Matt Snell, as he departed from the band in December 2010.[3] The first single from the album entitled "Under and Over It", was released on July 27, 2011.[4] The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 90,000 copies in the first week of release.[5] In September 2012, the album was certified gold by the RIAA with sales of at least 500,000 copies.[6] In 2012, the album won a RadioContraband Rock Radio Award for Album of the Year, and the single "Coming Down" won the award for Song of the Year.[7] As of 2017, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with sales of at least 1,000,000 copies.
Singles
Five singles have been released from the album, "Under and Over It", "Back for More", "Remember Everything", "Coming Down", and "The Pride".
"Under and Over It"
After its release as a single, "Under and Over It" enjoyed significant success. Its highest charted position on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart was fifth; it reached 20th on the U.S. Rock Songs chart; and even appeared on the Billboard Hot 100. From July through November of 2011, the song was also the number one song on Sirius XM radio's Octane channel.
"The Pride"
"The Pride" is the third track on the album,[8] and is often considered a list song. In an interview, guitarist Zoltan Bathory clarified the meaning of the song. "You can be a zebra or join the lion pride. You have to rebel against your circumstances, laziness and mediocrity—not the system."[9]
"The Tragic Truth"
The song "The Tragic Truth" never made the standard edition of American Capitalist. According to an interview with Zoltan, "The Tragic Truth" was originally going to be on the album, but it wasn't mixed in time. "The Tragic Truth" then ended up on the iTunes edition of the album.

Terry Bezer of Rock Sound said that "American Capitalist announces them as the world champions at post-Black album piledriving riffs and soaring, US radio-friendly melodies. To knock it for being dumb would be to miss the point entirely."[14] Amy Sciarretto from Loudwire commended the band for approaching the nu-metal formula with "solid songwriting and a genuine pissed off-ness" that has been masterly crafted throughout the album, revealing layers to the band that goes beyond "simplistic mook rock", concluding that "5FDP deliver mid-tempo, fiery, quality hard rock that should further increase their visibility."[12] AllMusic editor Gregory Heaney praised the band's musicianship for replicating the "era of post-Pantera groove metal," highlighting the title track and "Menace" for encapsulating that sound but also gave credit to both "Coming Down" and "Remember Everything" for showcasing their ability to give ballads a more rougher edge, concluding that fans of Sevendust and Mudvayne will find interest in them through this record.[1] PopMatters contributor Chris Colgan praised the overall consistency of the band's instrumentation and Ivan's "raw vocal prowess" being similar to their previous efforts but was critical of the lyrical content expounding messages of America and capitalism that goes against the band's penchant for "emotionally-charged lyrics about individualism, rage and darkness", concluding that "American Capitalist is just an unnecessary and irritating reminder that the American Dream is out of reach for most of us and will remain that way forever."[13]

Five Finger Death Punch (teils FFDP oder 5FDP abgekürzt) ist eine US-amerikanische Metal-Band aus Las Vegas, Nevada.
Der Name der Band bezieht sich auf den Martial-Arts-Film Zhao – Der Unbesiegbare (1972). Leadsänger Ivan Moody hält bei Live-Auftritten anstelle einer Faust oder der Mano cornuta seine Hände des Öfteren in einer Pose, die jene ausgedachte Kung-Fu-Geste andeuten soll.
Geschichte
Five Finger Death Punch wurde im Jahr 2005 von Gitarrist Zoltán Báthory zusammen mit Schlagzeuger Jeremy Spencer gegründet. Sie holten Sänger Ivan Moody (ehemals Motograter / Ghost Machine / Black Blood Orchestra), Gitarristen Caleb Bingham sowie den Bassisten Matt Snell kurz darauf zu sich. Bingham wurde 2007 durch Darrell Roberts ersetzt, dieser im Jahr 2009 wiederum durch Jason Hook. Im Jahre 2011 folgte die Trennung von Snell, der durch Chris Kael ersetzt wurde.
Ihr Debütalbum The Way of the Fist nahm die Band im Jahre 2006 mit Stevo „Shotgun“ Bruno und Mike Sarkisyan auf. Die Aufnahme wurde von Logan Mader (Machine Head / Soulfly) gemixt und geleitet. Im Juni wurde bekannt, dass die Band einen Vertrag mit „Firm Music“ unterzeichnet hat, welche zu „The Firm“ (Korn, Staind, Limp Bizkit) gehört. Das Debütalbum erschien am 31. Juli 2007.
Das zweite Album, War Is the Answer, erschien am 22. September 2009 in den USA. Die erste Single-Auskopplung daraus hieß „Hard to See“. Ihre Single „Walk Away“ wurde für das PPV Lockdown 2010 der Total Nonstop Action Wrestling genutzt.
Der Song „Dying Breed“ wurde 2010 für den Soundtrack des Horror/Action-Videospiels Splatterhouse benutzt, „Hard to See“ kann in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock gespielt werden. Der Song „Far from Home“ wird in der Fernsehserie Criminal Minds in Staffel 6 Folge 10 abgespielt.
Am 11. Oktober 2011 erschien das dritte Album, American Capitalist.
Am 26. Juli 2013 erschien der erste Teil des vierten Albums, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell. Der zweite Part wurde in Deutschland am 15. November 2013 veröffentlicht.
Am 1. Mai 2015 kam es bei einem Konzert in Memphis, Tennessee zu einem heftigen Streit auf der Bühne. Nachdem Sänger Ivan Moody sich über Jeremy Spencer lustig gemacht hatte, verließ die Band die Bühne. Nachdem Moody, alleine zurückgelassen, das Publikum unterhielt, versuchte die Band noch einige Male, das Konzert fortzusetzen. Nach dem endgültigen Abbruch kamen Trennungsgerüchte auf, die jedoch von FFDP zurückgewiesen wurden. Moody entschuldigte sich und die Tour wurde fortgesetzt.[4]
Am 12. Juni 2017 verließ Moody bei einem Konzert in Tilburg des Öfteren die Bühne, zwei Lieder mussten von Tommy Vext gesungen werden.[5] Die Band gab darauf hin bekannt, dass die restliche Europatour mit Vext als Sänger bestritten wird.[6]
Am 18. Dezember 2018 verkündete Schlagzeuger Jeremy Spencer, dass er die Band nach 14 aktiven Jahren verlassen wird. Als Grund gab er an, dass er sich physisch nicht mehr in der Lage befindet, weiter für die Band aktiv zu sein. Zuvor hatte er aufgrund einer Rückenoperation während der Co-Headliner-Tour mit Breaking Benjamin aussetzen müssen.
Am 13. Oktober 2020 verließ Jason Hook die Band. Nachdem Hook auf der letzten Europatour gesundheitsbedingt ausgefallen war, traf er die Entscheidung die Band zu verlassen. Sein damaliger Ersatzmann, Andy James, wurde von 5FDP mit sofortiger Wirkung als Nachfolger benannt.
