Drastic Fantastic: Ultimate Edition auf Wikipedia (oder andere Quellen):

Drastic Fantastic is the second studio album by Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall. It features some unreleased tracks she wrote before Eye to the Telescope such as new tracks she wrote in 2003. The record was released by Relentless Records on 10 September 2007 in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe, on 15 September in Australia, and 18 September 2007 in the United States and Canada. However, the album was leaked on P2P networks on 3 September 2007.

Some additional tracks features other unreleased songs such as "Mothgirl", "Bad Day" and "Journey", and during the Drastic Fantastic Tour, Tunstall covered "La Vie En Rose", which is on the U.K Bonus tracks, "My Sharona", The Bangles' "Walk Like an Egyptian" and Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" which features on the DVD. Also, three singles were taken from Drastic Fantastic: "Hold On", the lead single, "Saving My Face" and "If Only", which all charted in the UK Top 100.

On the US Billboard 200 chart, Drastic Fantastic debuted at number nine, selling about 50,000 copies in its first week, and sold around 225,000 copies in 2007.[3]

The album was reissued on 15 January 2021 in vinyl, triple-disc, and digital formats as Drastic Fantastic: Ultimate Edition, consisting of previously unreleased songs and remixes.[4]

The album received warm, though conservative, praise by most critics. Music critics from The Observer gave Drastic Fantastic five stars, stating the album was "bursting with so many hits that Tunstall's comic-book life is about to go stratospheric".[11] Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone gave the album three-and-a-half stars out of five, and said that the album's sound was a "flashback" to 1997 by noting similarities between the songs on Drastic Fantastic and songs written 10 years earlier.[12] Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic gave the album four out of five, calling Drastic Fantastic "a rare beast: a pop album with a songwriter's heart".[7]

However, some critics were less impressed, stating that the album was overproduced and lacked the "folksy" touch of her previous album Eye to the Telescope.[citation needed] The Guardian gave it three stars, stating "Tunstall could do better".[10]

Most songs on Drastic Fantastic are not new songs. An acoustic version of "Little Favours" and "Paper Aeroplane" appeared on the 2000 demo album Tracks in July. "Little Favours" also appeared as the B-side to "Under the Weather". "If Only", "Funnyman", and "Saving My Face" appeared on the demo album Toons March '03. Finally, Tunstall mentioned writing two new songs, "Hopeless" and "White Bird", in a blog entry from 2003.

The bonus track "Journey" appeared on KT Tunstall's early band Red Light Stylus' album Roughworks, under the title "The Journey's the Thing".

Singles

  • "Hold On" was released as the album's lead single on 16 July 2007 in the United States, and on 27 August in the United Kingdom.
  • "Saving My Face" was chosen as the second single; it was released on 12 November 2007.
  • "If Only" was released on 3 March 2008.
  • A video for the song "Little Favours" was released in many music channels of Brazil (such as MTV Brasil & Multishow).[20] The video is directed by Chris Bran, did not feature KT and only shows a KT Tunstall fan and ex-teacher Mr. Fritte with a puppet with strings, that he calls The Tunstallator.[21]

The song is featured on the Brazilian soap opera Três Irmãs.[2]

"Someday Soon" is available as a single on Internet music stores such as iTunes and Rhapsody. It was featured in the film The Women in a montage featuring Annette Bening and Meg Ryan.

Kate Victoria „KT“ Tunstall [ˈkeɪtɪ ˈtʌnstɔːl] (* 23. Juni 1975 in Edinburgh, Schottland) ist eine schottische Sängerin, Texterin und Komponistin und zählt damit zur Gruppe der Singer-Songwriter.

Leben

Die aus St. Andrews stammende Sängerin ist chinesisch-irischer Abstammung, wuchs bei Adoptiveltern auf und studierte an der Kent School in Connecticut sowie an der Royal Holloway Universität von London. Als sie ihre leibliche Mutter kennenlernte, erfuhr sie von ihr, dass ihr Vater Musiker war – nachdem sie diesen Weg bereits selbst eingeschlagen hatte. Zu Beginn ihrer musikalischen Laufbahn spielte sie in einigen Independent-Bands und spezialisierte sich dabei auf das Liederschreiben. Sie schrieb auch Musik für Kinder-TV-Shows und trat in diesen auch auf.

Ihr Alias „KT“ bezieht sich auf den Namen Katie. Als Studentin der University of London spielte sie Akustikgitarre in einer Studentenkneipe unter diesem Namen.

Der Durchbruch gelang ihr im Jahr 2004 mit einer Solo-Vorstellung des Songs Black Horse and the Cherry Tree bei der britischen Unterhaltungsshow Later with Jools Holland, wobei sie nur 24 Stunden Zeit hatte, sich auf diesen Auftritt vorzubereiten, nachdem der geplante Auftritt des Rappers Nas nicht stattfinden konnte, weil dessen Vater krank wurde.[1]

Das Debütalbum Eye to the Telescope wurde kurze Zeit später erneut veröffentlicht und kletterte danach in den UK-Charts bis auf Platz 3 (nach der ersten Veröffentlichung nur bis Platz 73). Es wurde im Juli 2005 für den Mercury Music Prize 2005 nominiert.

In Deutschland wurde KT Tunstall außerhalb der Hitparaden erstmals 2005 durch ihr Konzert bei dem jährlich vom ARD-Radiosender SWR3 veranstalteten New Pop Festival bekannt.

KT Tunstall war von 2008 bis 2013 mit dem Schlagzeuger Luke Bullen verheiratet, der Mitglied in Joe Strummers Band The Mescaleros war und auch für John Squire spielte.

Bei den BRIT Awards 2006 konnte sie sich den Titel des British Female Solo Artist (Beste britische weibliche Solokünstlerin) sichern.

Eine Reihe von Songs mit akustischen Instrumenten erschien im Oktober 2006 unter dem Titel KT Tunstall's Acoustic Extravaganza. Ursprünglich sollten die Songs ausschließlich über ihre Website verkauft werden. Sie soll das Album in nur 36 Stunden eingespielt haben.

Im September 2007 erschien ihr zweites Studioalbum Drastic Fantastic. Erste Singleauskopplung war der Song Hold On.

Tunstalls drittes Studioalbum Tiger Suit ist in Deutschland am 22. Oktober 2010 erschienen. Die erste europäische Singleauskopplung (Still A) Weirdo ist am 30. August zum Download erschienen.[2] In Amerika wurde stattdessen bereits am 10. August Fade Like a Shadow als Download-Single veröffentlicht.[3][4]

Tunstalls viertes Studioalbum Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon erschien im Juni 2013.

KT Tunstall spielt vorzugsweise Westerngitarren von Gibson, hier wiederum hauptsächlich die so genannten Dove-Modelle. Bei ihren Konzerten setzt sie oft das sogenannte „Live-Looping“ ein, eine Technik bei der der Musiker eine bestimmte Sequenz spielt, aufzeichnet und dann als sich wiederholende Schleife (Loop) abspielt, um sich selbst zu begleiten.
