AM Gold is the eleventh studio album by American pop rock band Train, released on May 20, 2022, through Columbia Records. To date, AM Gold is the first Train album of original material not to chart on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Background

On February 16, 2022, Train released a single called "AM Gold" and announced that an album of the same name would be released on May 20, 2022.[1][2] They also uploaded a video to their YouTube channel showing Ken Jeong promoting the album. Frontman Pat Monahan says that, regarding the album, "writing songs is hard. It's difficult to create something that you love and then other people love as well. Writing songs for two and a half years in front of video screens instead of being in the presence of other humans has been a long, strange trip. And now here we are. It has to start with love. Love that goes into work comes out of work. We love (the title track), this album, and our fans. Thank you for waiting so long for us. I think it was worth it. AM Gold! Here we go!"[1]

Promotion

Other than the lead single, "AM Gold", the album was preceded by three promotional singles. These songs were "Running Back (Trying to Talk to You)", released on April 14, 2022, "Turn the Radio Up" featuring Jewel, released on May 6, 2022, and "Cleopatra" featuring Sofía Reyes, released on May 18, 2022.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic gave AM Gold a positive review, stating that "Train makes maximalist pop music, the kind designed to be heard and sold at big-box stores, a sensibility that's rare in 2022, which is why AM Gold delivers a very particular kind of retro good times.[3]

Tour

The band subsequently announced the AM Gold Tour with Jewel and Blues Traveler, with a few select shows with Thunderstorm Artis and Will Anderson.[4] The tour began on June 8, 2022, in Mansfield, Massachusetts.[5]

Train ist eine US-amerikanische Alternative-Band, die 1994 in San Francisco gegründet wurde. Ihr Musikstil setzt sich aus Country, Rock und anderen Genres zusammen.

Bandgeschichte

Die Band wurde 1994 in San Francisco von Rob Hotchkiss und Patrick Monahan gegründet. Nachdem sie beschlossen hatten, aus dem Duo eine vollständige Band zu gründen, kamen Jimmy Stafford als Gitarrist, Charlie Colin als Bassist und später Scott Underwood am Schlagzeug hinzu. 1997 gingen Train als Vorband mit den Barenaked Ladies und den Counting Crows auf Tour. Ihr erstes erfolgreiches Lied war 2001 Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me), welches unter anderem bei der Grammyverleihung 2002 die Auszeichnungen für Bester Rocksong und Bestes Instrumentalarrangement mit Gesangsbegleitung gewann.

Ende 2009 erschien das fünfte Studioalbum mit dem Namen Save Me San Francisco. Die erste Single hieß Hey, Soul Sister und erreichte Spitzenpositionen in den internationalen Charts. Ab dem 16. Juli 2010 ging sie mit John Mayer auf Tour durch die Vereinigten Staaten und Kanada. In der 11. Folge der 6. Staffel von CSI: NY kam die Band zu einem Gastauftritt, wo sie unter anderem in einem Studio ihre Single Hey, Soul Sister spielten.[1] Der Sänger Patrick Monahan verkörperte dabei einen der Hauptverdächtigen. Die Episode, in der unter anderem auch Kim Kardashian, Vanessa Minnillo oder LaLa Vasquez einen Gastauftritt hatten,[1] wurde am 22. November 2010 erstmals auf ORF 1 ausgestrahlt.[2] Am Ende der Folge, die den Titel Überrollt trägt, spielte die Band außerdem noch ihre im Jahre 2003 veröffentlichte Single Calling All Angels.[1] Auch in der Serie 90210, 4. Staffel, Folge 18 hat Train einen Gastauftritt. Am 17. April 2012 erschien das sechste Studioalbum mit dem Namen California 37. Die erste Single Drive By wurde zuvor veröffentlicht. Weitere drei Jahre später erschien das siebte Studioalbum Bulletproof Picasso mit der Erfolgssingle Angel in Blue Jeans. Im Jahr 2016 erschien eine weitere Single mit dem Titel Play That Song. Das dazugehörige Album A Girl, a Bottle, a Boat erschien 2017.
